RU Autonomous Official Club Site

Here is the finished website: ruautosite.vercel.app

The official club website was a duty that was entrusted onto me as our old website was hosted on Google Sites, and was not updated to reflect the current club standing. When I was given the task, I first brainstormed the frameworks that would be best suitable for the site. Since it would be a static webpage that wouldn't need constant access to a database, I knew a framework made for static sites would be best. Initially, based from my experience, I thought to use React for the site, but as I did a little more research, I found a new JavaScript framework called Astro that had all the features that I needed. Furthermore, it was an extremely simplistic framework, allowing me to create components and layouts, that would aid me in having a good reusable site framework.

After learning this new framework, and learning of it's capabilites, I got to work making a draft of the site. I worked closely with the current business lead of the club, who was previously handling the website, to make his design vision into a reality.

I am very glad to have discovered this framework as it has a lot of benefits to using it over React. The biggest advantage is that this framework is very easy to learn, as it borrows concepts from React, which I am familiar with, but has more simplified routing. This framework also omits a lot of features that make allow for dynamic sites but due to the nature of the RU Autonomous site, a static site is all I needed to create. The template system offered by Astro is unmatched, as it allows me to create reusable components and even reusable page layouts. So thanks to Astro.js and over a month of work later, I was able to create a full fledged, fully responsive website that potential sponsors can access to learn more about Rutgers Autonomous.
